Feb 01On the death of Charles IV (the Handsome, King of France (1322-28), the next rightful claimant to the throne was up for grabs as there was no male heir. Isabella, the sister of Charles had married Edward II 513 and their son Edward III 580 , had just taken on the rule of England. Isabella put in a claim for her son, but in France the first cousin of Charles was chosen. He was Philip of Valois, the grandson of Philip III of France.Ref: 5
